Snake's Head Fritillary
A true gem of the spring garden, Fritillaria meleagris, or Snake's Head Fritillary, enchants with its delicate, nodding bells patterned in intricate checkered markings of deep purple, plum, and soft white. This elegant perennial thrives in cool, average to moist but well drained conditions, making it perfect for naturalising in meadows, woodland gardens, or beneath deciduous trees.
It's stems reach a height of around 25-30cm tall. With its exquisite detail and effortless charm, Fritillaria meleagris adds a touch of wild beauty to any garden. Bulbs multiply easily.
Growing Conditions: Prefers average to moist, well-draining soil in partial shade or sun.
We grow our in a rather sandy, free draining bed with a generous addition of good compost and well mulched. Bulbs don't like to be too wet in the summer while dormant.
